So, what do you actually DO….?
This is the question that seems to be asked most often at the moment. BCCP’s vision is “To be a Christian presence on Barkingside High Street” but what does that actually mean in reality? It means that Christians - of all denominations - are right there, in the middle of our materialistic everyday world, available to “be as Christ” to anyone who is looking for companionship, a listening ear, somewhere to sit or a drink and a biscuit.
And if nobody goes in that day? Well, there is a prayer request board and a map of Barkingside, and the volunteers sit quietly in the Prayer Room and pray in the love of God. What is more important than covering this area in prayer?
Of course, there are lots of other things to DO, like displaying and selling Christian books and fair-trade foods, all the office jobs, sorting out the ‘library’ shelves, and so on. But DO-ing is much less important than BE-ing there, as any of the folk who have found comfort at The Manna House will tell you.
So yes, we could do more Bible Studies, more services, more evangelism, more activities of every sort. If any church wishes to use our facilities to do these things, please feel free to Contact Us about the arrangements. But BCCP itself has a limited number of volunteers and our calling is primarily to BE a Christian presence on the High Street. The rest may follow in time; meanwhile we remain as we began, as what has been described as “An Oasis on the High Street”.
So, what do we really NEED….?
We would like to make better use of the Centre by increasing our opening hours. To do this we need more volunteers. We greatly appreciate those who have already come forward, but we need to be able to cover the same hours every week before we can advertise any new opening times.
So, if you can spare two hours or more between 10:00 and 3:00, at least once a month, then please Contact Us at the Manna House, for further information.
